These potholders have fronts pieced using the foundation technique.
The bird designs are (or are modified from) patterns by Margaret Rolfe.
The cat is my modification of patterns widely available.

Outsides are 100% cotton fabrics.
The fronts are diagonally quilted over a double layer of Thermolam Plus
(which is an an extra-dense polyester batting).
Backs are lined inside with ironing board cover material.
Edges are finished with a double-fold binding (just like on a quilt).
