My flower stencils began as pencil sketches from nature,
which were later redone as pen and ink flower drawings.
Then those flower drawings were used as a guide to redraw each design in a
computer drawing program, creating stencil-outline shapes.
And I added computer-drawn borders of corner squares and skinny side rectangles.
Meanwhile, I took marbled papers
that I had created in the standard hand-marbling fashion **
and scanned those marbled papers into the computer.
I took each computer-drawn stencil and used it to create a "mask"
--which is a stencil inside the computer that allows a "lower level" to show through--
and placed a scanned marbled design behind the mask,
positioning it to highlight the marbled swirls.
